Keeping fit and healthy has been a struggle for many of us, during the Covid 19 pandemic.
We’ve been stuck at home, and a lack of facilities and opportunities has led many of us to put our health and wellbeing on the back burner for a while. Frankly, fitness has been the least of our concerns as we attempt to navigate the complexities of work, family and school during a very difficult time.
Even those of us that work at St. George’s Hill have found it hard to maintain our fitness and live a healthy lifestyle!
Now that things are getting back to normal and we are back at work, school and our busy lives it seems like a good time to prioritise our health and wellbeing once more.
But it can be hard to get back into a routine after such a long break. You may be worried about visiting the gym again or be embarrassed about weight gain and loss of fitness.
You are not alone. A survey of 2,253 people by King’s College London and Ipsos MORI found that 48 per cent of respondents had put on weight during the lockdown. They also reported that people are feeling more anxious and depressed than usual.
Another survey by Public Health England found 40% of us had gained weight during the lockdowns, with an average gain of 3kg, which is nearly half a stone. At the same time food delivery outlets have reported a huge increase in demand for takeaway-style foods delivered to our doors. Many people are reporting an increase in comfort eating, snacking on high calorie fast foods.
Here at St George’s Hill, our members’ health, fitness and wellbeing are our top priority. Each person’s experience of lockdown has been unique so we will each need to take a different approach to returning to health and fitness. Living through a global pandemic has been tough, and we need to be kind to ourselves. But we also need to prioritise our health and wellbeing once more.
It’s not just about getting back in physical shape either, exercise has been proven to reduce stress and relieve anxiety and depression, so there are many good reasons to get back to the gym.
At St. George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club, we recognise that getting back to the gym may be tough for many. We are all out of shape, out of routine and may be battling stress and low self-esteem. So, here’s how St. George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club is helping members achieve post- pandemic health and fitness.

As well as group exercise, our members love the one-to-one approach that our personal trainers can give. Our experience and qualified PTs can help you develop a new strategy to get you back on track.
