Tennis coaching
As a new member you’ll be offered a personal induction with David Collins, our Head Tennis Professional. David will help you get started at the club and make introductions to Captains and Coaches.
You can also enjoy regular weekly coaching sessions with our club professionals, providing expertise for everyone from beginners and improvers to more advanced levels.
Social and tennis club competitions
We offer friendly matches and competitive tournaments including:
- Singles, doubles and mixed box leagues
- Club cups and tournaments for all abilities
- Social groups and weekly mix-in events
- Club Championship including o pen and handicap competitions
- Dedicated singles, doubles, mixed and match play sessions
Make use of the free Playwaze online app which is available to all members and you can easily organise matches and practice with your fellow members.
Team and league events
- Winter teams: 15 women’s, 6 men’s, 18 junior teams
- Summer teams: 21 women’s, 13 men’s, 18 junior and 5 mixed teams
Junior tennis
Tennis coaching and development for kids is a key part of our mission. We teach tennis in a fun and challenging way that helps to develop skills, boost self-confidence and keep kids fit, healthy and happy.
We want junior members to flourish in an environment where they feel comfortable and that their skills are continuing to improve.
Mini tennis
Mini tennis is the perfect introduction to the sport, making tennis accessible to young children aged between 3 and 10 years.
Sessions involve smaller courts and equipment, combined with lower bouncing balls to help youngsters get to grips with the game and develop a love for the sport.

Tennis is for everyone
From kids aged 3 to grown-ups aged 93 and at every age in between, tennis is a truly wonderful game that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Play singles, doubles, mixed doubles with friends or competitively. The choice is yours.
And with new forms of tennis such as padel arriving on the scene, the choice of tennis styles is increasing all the time.
Good for physical fitness
Tennis can be played at a variety of paces to suit any fitness level, from sedate to fast-paced. You could burn off a few hundred calories in one game of tennis.
It’s a great way to improve physical strength, co-ordination, balance and get a cardio workout at the same time.
Fresh air and sunlight are great for health and can boost your mood and self-esteem too.
Good for mental health
Tennis is a competitive sport but it’s also a social sport. Played with partners or in pairs, it’s a chance to get to know new people and make new friends. And it’s a way let off steam in a friendly and supportive environment.
Whilst winning tournaments and leagues is not the aim for everyone, competing and challenging yourself in a competitive way can boost confidence and self-esteem.

Tennis at St. George's Hill
A long and storied history
Our story begins with master builder Walter George Tarrant who acquired the St. George’s Hill land (then woodland) in 1911. His grand vision was to create a residential estate with the target market of Londoners wanting an escape from the city, or those who wanted to live in close proximity to the city whilst enjoying the benefits of the Surrey countryside.
He allocated a 16-acre parcel of land next to Warren Pond on the north-east corner of the estate, to build tennis courts, crocquet lawns and a bowling green.
The first courts opened in 1913 (the very end of the Edwardian era and one of the longest and warmest summers on record), by His Serene Highness Prince Alexander of Teck and wife Princess Alice.
Celebrities have never been far from St. George’s Hill with well-known residents of the estate (past and present) including John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Cliff Richard, Theo Paphitis and sports personalities John Terry, Sue Barker and Jenson Button.
St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club is renowned as one of the most prestigious Tennis Clubs in England and is proud to welcome families from Weybridge, Esher, Cobham, Walton, West Byfleet, Leatherhead and surrounding areas.
