The average time to commute from Weybridge to London is 50 minutes. And that’s just from Weybridge to Waterloo. If you have an onward journey into the city, then your commuting time is bound to be much longer.
Times that by two and you have a minimum two-hour journey from home and back just to get to your place of work every day.
But maybe you’re one of those people for whom the pandemic has offered you an unexpected way out of the commuter trap. Maybe, like thousands of other Londoners, you’ve been given the chance to work from home – either permanently or on several days of the week.
If so, you might be wondering what to do with the time saved, now that #lockdown3 is nearly over.
The lockdowns have been a sharp reminder that whilst we can be sometimes myopically focused on work, our physical and mental selves are often ignored.
Our suggestion is to get off the corporate treadmill, and onto an actual treadmill! They’ll both wear you out, but our treadmills get you fit and happy at the same time! What’s better – time spent squashed into a train carriage battling for space, or time spent on the squash court battling a friend for sporting supremacy?
If this sounds appealing to you, then consider making a determined effort to improve your quality of life by turning your commuting time into “me” time at Weybridge’s best gym, spa and tennis club, St. George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club.
Here’s just a taste of what we have on offer
Tennis club
We’re first and foremost a world-famous tennis club. With 33 courts, multiple surfaces and indoor and outdoor offerings, the experienced tennis player will be right at home.
However, you don’t need to be a seasoned player to take advantage – our Tennis professional team, headed by David Collins, will give you a personal induction when you join, and introduce you to the facilities and our large team of captains and coaches. If competition tennis is your thing, we have singles, doubles and mixed box leagues to get your competitive pulse racing. Use the app to organize your matches with fellow members.
The gym
We’re incredibly proud of the gym we’ve created. State-of-the-art facilities include Technogym equipment, treadmills, cross trainers and much more. We’re developing a reputation as being one of the best gyms in Surrey.
We have recently opened a brand new private outdoor gym, featuring functional and strength-training equipment. Exercising outdoors has been shown to have very positive effects for mood and mental health, not just physical fitness.
The health club
The gym is just one of the benefits of the overall health-club offering at St. George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club. We also offer indoor and outdoor fitness classes including Zumba, Box Fit, yoga, Pilates and lots of strength, conditioning, and group exercise classes, plus spin and cycling classes. All these classes have been reconsidered in the light of new social distancing requirements and will be reopening shortly in a Covid-safe way.
The spa
The spa is the icing on the cake. It’s the place for ultimate relaxation. A real get-away from the stresses and strains of daily life. We have a 6-room treatment centre, and our professional masseurs and beauty therapists will help you to restore harmony and balance into your life. Decompress and unwind before, after, (or maybe even during) the working day. Beauty and happiness should not be confined to weekends or special occasions. We’re here for you every day, right on your doorstep.
Nutritious dining
Whether you’re here mainly for racquets, gym or social, rounding off your visit with nutritious and delicious food and drink is a must. We have many ways to replenish, from breakfasts and brunches, all-day coffee all the way up to fine dining.
Our Club menu features everything from generous sandwiches to fish and chips, light and healthy salads, pasta, wok and grill favourites. Perfect for anytime dining with friends and family. And a club speciality is brunch – featuring classic omelettes or egg dishes done your way, burgers and great steaks.
We’re especially proud of the Lake Room Restaurant, with it’s amazing views across the water and even more amazing menu. Enjoy classic English and French-inspired dishes from our experienced chefs, plus to-die-for desserts such as our Chocolate and Salted Caramel Slice or Sticky Toffee Pudding.
There’s plenty to satisfy all palettes, including a selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes, such as the famous Moving Mountains Burger which is big enough to satisfy the hungriest guests!
In the summer we go al fresco and open the lakeside barbeque for socialising and relaxing on the terrace. Above all our food and beverage offerings are reason enough to join St. George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club.
What about the family?
St. George’s is a place for the family. However old your kids are, there’ll be loads to keep them busy and get them started on a lifelong road to fitness. Kids’ coaching includes tennis, squash, swimming. And we have (let’s be honest) the coolest kids play area on the dining terrace.
The list of features and facilities goes on and on, but it’s really the family-friendly atmosphere that you’ll love the most. Instead of getting cross on the train every day – get on a cross trainer every day. If your daily commute is less time-consuming than it used to be, make sure to use your new-found time positively at St. George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club.
