With top-class sports facilities for families and a wide range of spaces to relax, have fun and come together, St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club, Weybridge is the perfect place for families to spend time together.
This month we spoke to several family members to find out what facilities they enjoy as a family and what makes the Club so special.
Why did you join St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club and as a family and has it met your expectations?
Maggie’s husband has been a member for most of his life and Maggie and her children joined about 9 or 10 years ago. They use the Club at least once a day, if not more. Maggie’s husband regularly plays squash and can often be found in the gym, while the children use the club for weekly swimming lessons. Maggie says their loyalty to the Club for many, many years is testament to how happy they are with their ongoing experience.
Anita joined the Club primarily for the squash and gym facilities being conveniently located to their home in Weybridge. Subsequent to joining they became full tennis members and now use the Club on a daily basis for tennis, squash and the gym. They both really enjoy being part of the tennis and squash community and their son learned to play squash from an early age and now is part of the Surrey County squash team – the Club has certainly met their expectations and more!
What activities do you like to do as a family at the Club?
As a family (going back a few years now!) Tessa enjoys the weekend ‘Splash Time’ sessions in the indoor swimming pool and they especially look forward to visiting the Club in the warmer months when the BBQ is set up for outdoor dining on the Terrace. They love to come down as a family and/or with friends for a relaxing meal and while away the evening together.
Maggie and her family relish the squash, tennis, gym and studio classes. Following all that exercise, they often have lunch at least once every weekend so the dining areas are used frequently as a family! During the summer they especially like the outdoor Terrace with its great play area for the children and stunning views of the lake.
Anita’s family primarily play tennis and squash and love joining the social group sessions and regularly benefit from individual lessons from the team of professional coaches. Her son often plays squash and attends a lot of the junior tennis camps during school holidays while her daughter loves to play tennis with the family when she returns from university.
Which facilities would you say you use most at the Club?
In terms of facilities, Tessa and her family can usually be found on the tennis courts. She says that 50% of their family are big tennis players, so they’re down on the courts almost every day. Tessa herself is making more use of the Spa these days, which offers a wide range of treatments!
Similarly, Maggie and her family use the tennis and squash courts most frequently. Outside of the courts, Maggie’s family love to visit The Club Room – they have lunch there regularly and enjoy the relaxed nature and wide choice of dishes.
Being an early riser, Anita loves nothing better than visiting the Club for breakfast, which is open from 7am weekdays and 8.30am at the weekends.
What are your favourite activities you partake in at the Club?
With so much on offer, all members agreed that the tennis, squash and gym facilities are their preferred activities on offer but look forward to trying the outdoor gym, which is open all year round and offers both junior sessions and group classes.
What would you recommend and shout about to new members?
Tessa is a huge advocate of:
- the gorgeous, tranquil and serene setting the Club sits in, yet is a stone’s throw from Weybridge, Cobham and other neighbouring busy family towns.
- the friendly staff and Members
- the quality on-court and in-pool coaching for the Juniors – My boys loved their swimming and tennis lessons and both have given them confidence, a love of sport and we have all made some friends along the way too. Win-win!
Anita raves about the fantastic tennis and squash facilities and says the coaching teams are phenomenal. Where else can you have access to a tennis coach who also coaches grand slam winners! Anita also thinks the lakeside dining for food and drinks is fantastic, especially in the summer. She also says the Club is particularly great for juniors with excellent activities during school holidays and a wide range of fun social events on offer throughout the year – the fireworks extravaganza is not to be missed!
Finally, Maggie talks us through her most cherished parts of the Club: “Definitely the squash courts are a very important asset for us and the coaches are outstanding. We love the ability to exercise as a family then relax at the Terrace BBQ near the playground – a perfect day for everyone.”
